What was originally a class project and slowly turned into an independent project, ECOLearn took many stages of development including receiving funding from the University of Connecticut Change grant as well as coordinating with several UConn staff and faculty to properly design and implement this space.
This combined space integrates the outdoor classroom area located closest to 15 Manter Road as well as built.
structures that support plant based learning. The purpose of this build was to provide a space on campus that supports outdoor learning in a fun interactive way.
Early stages of the project included writing a budget for materials and creating detailed CAD files that would provide support to building our structures. We worked with several UConn departments including UConn Blooms for plant donation, the UConn Dairy Bar for location purposes and the UConn Research Farm for construction and installation. While working with these departments on primarily installment pieces, we also worked with the University Landscape Architects office on understanding functionality and feasibility of the projects entirety.
We are super excited to share this space with you and the greater UConn community. We hope that it provides a space that is inclusive and emphasized the importance of immersion into the wonderful plants and pollinators that help keep our gardens running each and every day!
